GROUND PROBES & GROUND FAULT INTERRUPTERS
Stray voltage in the aquarium is very common. It gets into the tank from all the pumps, lighting, heaters and every other electrical item in the tank. You might feel a slight tingle when you put your hands into the tank. Sometimes it is more than a tingle, MUCH MORE!
It could be enough to kill you!
Every tank should be equipped with a Ground Probe and a Ground Fault Interrupter. The ground probe will take any stray current and direct it to ground through the probe instead of through you. In the event of a short circuit (ex. accidently dropping your light fixture into the water) the Ground Fault Interrupter would cut power to the tank before any harm is done. This is the cheapest life insurance policy you can buy!
